CAREER DEVELOPMENT SECTION
The objective of Career Development Section is to provide a comprehensive range of free and efficient employment assistance and career guidance services to help job seekers find suitable jobs and employers fill their vacancies.
Job Referral Service
A Career Development Officer is responsible for assisting clientele to identify various employment opportunities in the local labour market. In addition, Career Development Officers bring to the attention of potential employers an individual or group of individuals who need a job.
Resume Writing and Interviewing Preparation
Career Development Officers will assist clientele with prepare and build a professional resume utilizing the expertise of experienced officers in addition to automated résumé writing software resources. Career Development section will also facilitate training courses to equip clientele with the tools and confidence to handle a job interview. In addition, the workshop includes practice session where every participant is given individual feedback on his or her interviewing strengths and areas of improvement.
Provided is a number of interactive career assessment tools, vocational and educational information to help persons make better informed career and school choices. This is a great resource service if you are a high school student making your career and training choices or a mid-career person thinking about a career transition. You also have access to our reference library which includes a wide array of publications on employment and training skills information. Further Education Assistance
Further educational assistance is available to increase your basic academic skills; life skills; job readiness skills; computer literacy or communication skills. We conduct various training courses in-house to fit your needs. We also sponsor eligible candidates for various courses at locally accredited Institutions. Located on the premises is a business centre where you can utilize our computers to update your personal resume and cover letters. Clientele have access to our state of the art resume building software to develop resumes and view thousands of sample professional resumes. A photocopier, fax machine, internet access and telephones are available for you to use in your job search.
Summer Employment Programme
Our Summer Employment Programme (SEP) is designed to provide Bermudian students from the age of 16 years with meaningful work and training experience during the summer months. SEP provides an array of summer enrichment experience within the Government and private sector.
The Summer Employment Program strives to:
- Offer an opportunity to develop the skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s world of work.
- Provide a mechanism through which eligible students can earn money, gain meaningful work experience, participate in skills training workshops, and be exposed to various careers.
- Enhance basic academic and other skills necessary to obtain and maintain long-term employment.
- To help students make a smooth transition from school to career and/or higher education.
