Vehicle Testing Announcement

Effective April 6th, 2009 the Bermuda Emissions Control Ltd. (BECL) is now responsible for the vehicle safety and emissions inspection programme. TCD is no longer examining motor vehicles.

There are two satellite inspection centers in addition to the main inspection center located within the TCD building on North Street in Hamilton.

Satellite Testing Centers

  1. The Rockaway Satellite Inspection Center is located at 10 Sea Express Lane, Southampton SB02 (near to the Rockaway Ferry Terminal in Southampton).
  2. The Southside Satellite Inspection Center is located at Waller's Point Road, St. David's DD03 (near Southside Industrial Park).

Please note that only four wheeled vehicles will be inspected at the satellites. These include private cars, light trucks, intermediate trucks and heavy trucks (Class A) only. The hours of operation for both satellites are Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed for lunch 1:00pm to 2:00pm

North Street Testing Center

The BECL North Street Inspection Center is located in the new TCD building at 1 North Street Hamilton HM11. The hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Early morning testing will still be available starting at 7:00 a.m. for four wheeled vehicles only. NO TAXIS, CYCLES or NEW VEHICLES will be tested during this time.

What do I need to sign up?
To sign up with eTCD you only need a valid email address and driving/learning licence.


How do I book an Appointment online?
Customers can only book an appointment online for themselves or for vehicles that they own. All practical tests for cars, cycles, and trucks can be booked online. Additionally vehicle inspections can be booked at all 3 testing locations and appointment confirmations can also be made online.


What do I need to know before renewing my vehicle license?
Please note that only private cars, auxiliary cycles and motorcycles can be re-licensed online.  All other vehicles such as vans and trucks cannot be re-licensed online.  You must go to the Transport Control Department to re-license those vehicles.
Make sure that you have all the necessary documentation. 
This will be:
     • A Valid Vehicle Examination
     • Major Credit Card
     • A copy of your current insurance policy which contains your policy number and effective and expiration dates.
You will not be allowed to register online if your vehicle fits the following criteria:
     • Your vehicle has not been inspected and passed
     • Your vehicle is already licensed
     • Your vehicle is not currently registered to a valid assessment number
     • Your vehicle does not have a valid insurance for the licensing period


Will my credit card transaction and personal information be secure?
To ensure the security of your account information, we use a system involving Digital Identification Certificates from QuoVadis, the local leader in digital authentication products and services. All transactions via are encrypted and credit card data is not stored on our local systems after authorization is received from your financial institution.

Please be advised that in accordance to Section 16 of the Motor Car Act 1951; No person shall register (or renew) a motor vehicle licence unless that person is the holder of a valid driver's licence for the vehicle being registered.

Persons not holding a valid drivers licence (e.g a licence to ride a motorcycle) will not be a permitted to register a motor vehicle or renew their motor vehicle until such time as they have obtained the drivers licence for the vehicle they are registering.

It is suggested that persons refer to the back of their driver's licence to ensure that they are certified to operate the vehicle that they currently have registered to their name to avoid any inconvenience during the annual licencing process.
